Simple Medieval Leather Sword Scabbard with Lacing and Belt Loop
Practical Design and Historical Context
Carrying a sword in a simple leather scabbard suspended vertically or at a slight angle from the waist was one of the most basic and widespread methods of transporting bladed weapons across the centuries. This model consists of two parts: the scabbard itself with decorative lacing, and a separate belt hanger (frog). You simply thread the hanger onto your belt and slide the scabbard and sword into it. This system is designed so that, if necessary, you can pull the entire scabbard and weapon out of the frog at once. You will appreciate this feature when sitting down by a campfire or in a tavern, where you want to set your weapon aside without having to unbuckle your belt.
Custom Made for Your Weapon
To ensure the sword is held firmly in the scabbard and glides out smoothly, the scabbard is made exclusively to measure for your specific blade. After completing your order, we will ask you to fill in a dimension chart for your sword (total blade length, width at the crossguard, thickness, etc.). The standard belt loop is sized for belts up to 5 cm (approx. 2 inches) wide. If you wear a wider belt, simply mention this request in the order notes, and we will gladly adapt the loop to your needs.

Note: This product is handcrafted from genuine leather. It is a purely natural material. Minor variations in colour, fine wrinkles, and specific surface textures are its natural characteristics. These slight imperfections do not reduce the utilitarian value of the product in any way; on the contrary, they confirm its authenticity. Each piece is thus, to some extent, a unique original.
Leather Care and Safety Guidelines
High-quality cowhide will serve you for many years if cared for properly. We recommend treating the scabbard and frog regularly with a quality leather balm containing beeswax. This will protect the leather from drying out and cracking, and increase its resistance to rain. Never dry the leather on a radiator or near an open fire. From a safety perspective, remember that the scabbard does not have a solid wooden core. It is therefore primarily intended for blunt practice or LARP weapons. If you intend to insert a sword with a sharpened blade, exercise extreme caution when drawing and sheathing to avoid cutting through the leather wall and causing potential injury.
We highly recommend selecting a sturdy medieval leather belt with a brass or forged iron buckle from our range, on which this hanger will look absolutely perfect.
