Early Medieval Leather Sword Scabbard with Belt and Bronze Buckle
Historical Context and Practical Use
The design of this sword scabbard is seamlessly based on historical sources and finds dating back to the 12th century. During the Crusades and the High Romanesque period, it was essential for a warrior to have his sword securely hung at his waist, ready for an immediate draw. The simple yet highly effective suspension integrated directly into the belt evenly distributes the weight of the weapon and prevents it from getting in the way while walking or running. Today, you will put this scabbard to excellent use during historical reconstructions, at HEMA fencing practice for safe weapon transport, or as an elaborate accessory for cosplay and LARP.
Leather Care and Safe Handling
Since the product is made of genuine cowhide leather, it requires regular care. We recommend treating the leather at least twice a year with a high-quality leather balm containing beeswax or lanolin. This keeps the material supple and moisture-resistant. Never place a wet or un-oiled sword into the scabbard, as moisture could damage the blade with rust. If the scabbard gets wet in the rain, dry it slowly at room temperature. Never place it directly on a radiator, near an open fire, and do not dry it with a hair dryer – the leather would crack and be irreversibly destroyed. Also, be careful not to insert a sword with an extremely sharp blade without increased caution; it could cut through the leather and cause injury.

Custom Made for Your Sword
To ensure the scabbard serves you perfectly, it is custom-made. When placing an order, it is essential to provide the exact dimensions of your sword's blade and state your waist circumference measured over your gambeson or tunic. This ensures that both the belt and the scabbard itself will be one hundred percent functional and comfortable to wear.
For a complete and historically faithful look of a 12th-century warrior, we recommend purchasing our linen tunic and a high-quality woollen cloak with a forged brooch to go with this leather scabbard.
