Magnificent Black-Yellow Knightly Velvet Surcoat With Skirt
Historical Background And Period Fashion
This ensemble faithfully draws upon the European knightly fashion of the High and Late Middle Ages, specifically the 14th and 15th centuries. During this time, knights and heavy cavalrymen wore a so-called surcoat (or tabard) over their mail or plate armour. It served to protect the precious armour from the heat of the sun and rain, but above all, it bore the family's heraldic colours and symbols for clear recognition on the chaotic battlefield. The ensemble consists of an under-tunic with long black sleeves and a skirt featuring striking horizontal black and yellow stripes. Over this, the actual surcoat is worn, which is equipped with short sleeves featuring an elegantly scalloped edge. Both the surcoat and its short sleeves are proudly decorated with elaborate black appliques of heraldic animals and a diagonal cross (saltire). The garment is precisely tailored from genuine cotton velvet, which guarantees great durability, a luxurious representative appearance, and excellent breathability.

Material Maintenance And Care
Due to the use of genuine cotton velvet and sewn-on heraldic appliques, we highly recommend leaving the cleaning of this costume to a professional dry cleaner. For home care, strictly follow the instructions in the Cleaning and maintenance instructions section. Never wash the garment in a standard washing machine and do not tumble dry, as this could damage the luxurious texture of the velvet and deform the appliques. Completely avoid chemical bleaches. We strongly advise you that the leather belt, pouch, footwear, and any other accessories shown in the photographs are not included in the delivery.
Recommended Period Accessories
To achieve an absolutely perfect and historically accurate knightly look from the 14th or 15th century, we highly recommend complementing the costume with a sturdy knightly leather belt with a forged buckle and authentic leather shoes with an elongated tip (poulaines). A mail shirt or a padded gambeson fits ideally under the garment if you are heading straight into the heat of battle!
