Medieval Men's Peasant Costume With Vest And Velvet Hood
Historical Background And Period Fashion
This costume faithfully reflects the fashion of the common folk, free peasants, craftsmen, and rangers from the High Middle Ages, approximately the 13th to 15th centuries. Layering clothes was an absolute necessity during this time, not only to maintain body heat but also as a sign of a certain social status. The base of the garment is a long under-skirt (tunic) with long sleeves, over which a distinctive outer vest is worn. This vest features short sleeves, extended tails, and is aesthetically embellished with fine decorative embroidery on the chest, back, and sleeves. The entire ensemble is topped off with the historically very popular and practical velvet hood (gugel) featuring a long tail (liripipe), which reliably protected the head and shoulders from rain and wind. Both the tunic and the vest are tailored from highly durable duvetyn (100% cotton), while the hood is made of genuine cotton velvet. These natural materials ensure excellent breathability and durability.

Material Maintenance And Care
To preserve the beauty of the embroidery and the long lifespan of this historical garment, gentle care is necessary. Always follow the instructions provided in the Cleaning and maintenance instructions section. We recommend washing the garment very gently by hand or in a washing machine on a delicate cycle up to 30 °C (86 °F), ideally turned inside out so as not to damage the sewn-on decorations. Never tumble dry the garment and completely avoid using harsh chemical bleaches. We strongly advise you that leather shoes, belts, and any other accessories shown in the photographs are not included in the delivery.
Recommended Period Accessories
To achieve an absolutely perfect and historically accurate look from the 14th century, we highly recommend complementing the costume with a sturdy leather belt with a forged buckle and a simple leather pouch. Your look will then be excellently complemented by authentic medieval leather footwear and possibly a longbow or a falchion if you plan to play the role of an agile ranger at a LARP event!
