Historical Context and Usage

The late 15th century was a period when military fashion became increasingly ornate. This costume reflects the style of commanders and captains who needed to visually distinguish themselves from the common infantry on the battlefield. The two-tone design, known as mi-parti, often carried a deeper meaning – the colours represented the heraldic colours of the nobleman, city, or monarch under whose banner the unit fought. The knee-length, buttoned coat with gathered sleeves and pleated waist was a typical civilian and military garment of the wealthier classes of that time.

Today, this outfit is perfectly suited for historical reenactments of late medieval wars (such as the Burgundian Wars), epic fantasy LARPs, or as a high-quality theatrical costume. Please remember that this is a textile garment, not protective armour. If you plan to engage in contact fencing, it is essential to wear a shock-absorbing padded jacket (gambeson) or hidden modern protectors underneath. The garment alone will not protect you from weapon strikes.

Material and Proper Care

The costume is made of a sturdy and comfortable cotton fabric that holds its shape well and provides the necessary comfort. To ensure the coat and cap retain their rich colours and seam strength, proper care is crucial.

• Washing: The garment should be washed very gently by hand or in a washing machine on a delicate cycle at a maximum temperature of 30 °C (86 °F).
• Drying: Never dry the costume in a tumble dryer. Avoid direct sunlight when drying to prevent the colours from fading.
• Ironing: Ironing is recommended only on the reverse side on a low to medium heat setting.

Please note that the leather belt, dagger, hosen (tights), and leather shoes shown in the photographs are not included in the delivery. A leather belt with a brass buckle and a medieval dagger from our selection will perfectly complement this garment, creating a flawless period outfit.
