Historical Context and Usage

This garment faithfully reflects men's fashion of the Late Gothic period (late 15th and early 16th century). During this time, the male silhouette began to take a distinct shape – doublets became shorter, reaching just below the waist, and tightly hugged the chest, while the sleeves were fashionably gathered or puffed at the shoulders. The lower body was covered by tight-fitting hosen, which during this era began to be sewn together, forming the predecessor of modern trousers. A remarkable element is the mi-parti style (two-tone or patterned hosen), which was incredibly popular at the time and often expressed allegiance to a specific noble house, a city, or simply the wearer's personal flamboyance.

Today, this ensemble is perfectly suited for civilian historical reenactment, theatrical performances, or as a highly representative costume for LARP. Please note, however, that this is civilian clothing and not protective armour. If you plan to engage in contact fencing, do not forget to wear a shock-absorbing padded gambeson or hidden modern protectors underneath the doublet for your safety.

Material and Proper Care

To ensure a period-accurate look and comfort, the costume is tailored from high-quality cotton fabrics. The doublet is made of 100% cotton velvet, giving it a luxurious and sturdy appearance. The hosen are sewn from 100% cotton, making them breathable and pleasant against the skin.

• Cotton Velvet (Doublet): We recommend washing very gently by hand or in a washing machine on a delicate cycle at a maximum temperature of 30 °C (86 °F). Never wring the velvet by twisting, as this could break the pile. Iron exclusively on the reverse side on a low heat setting.
• Cotton Hosen: Can be washed in a washing machine at 30 °C (86 °F). Avoid aggressive bleaches and tumble drying to prevent the vibrant colours from fading and the fabric from shrinking.
• Felt Hat: If it gathers dust, simply wipe it lightly with a soft clothes brush.
• Cleaning and care of costumes

In the photographs, the garment is accessorized with a linen shirt, a leather belt, a sword, and tall leather boots. These accessories are not included in the delivery. To bring your look to absolute perfection, we highly recommend purchasing a period linen shirt with a stand collar and a high-quality leather belt from our selection.
