Historical Context and Usage

This belt is based on the realities of the 14th and 15th centuries, when similar wide belts were worn across medieval society, from wealthy burgesses to mercenaries. The original pattern originates from West Flanders (modern-day Belgium). During the High and Late Gothic periods, a belt did not merely hold up trousers; it was essential for girding long tunics, gambesons, and doublets. Pouches, daggers, and swords were suspended from it. The hand-forged buckle, with extended finials reminiscent of a Celtic lyre, is an excellent example of timeless and functional craftsmanship.

Care and Usage Instructions

The belt fastens classically by passing the strap through the buckle prong. Since the product is made from thick ox leather, we recommend treating it lightly with a beeswax leather balm before your first demanding event. This will soften the leather and provide water resistance. Pay special attention to the iron buckle. It is hand-forged from carbon steel and does not have a modern stainless finish. To prevent corrosion, treat the metal parts with WD40 oil or coat them with beeswax.

Safety and Warnings

Never wash the belt in a washing machine or soak it in water unnecessarily. If you get caught in the rain at a LARP event, let the belt dry naturally at room temperature. Drying it on a radiator or near an open fire will irreversibly damage and crack the leather. Other clothing parts or weapons shown in the photographs are not included.
