Historical Context and Usage of the Costume

Although this robe leans heavily on the fantasy genre, its cut is based on real historical models from the 15th century. The extremely wide sleeves refer to the fashion of the so-called houppelande, worn by wealthy citizens and the nobility to demonstrate that they did not have to work with their hands. Later, similar long robes (gowns) became a symbol for academics, magistrates, and the clergy. The richly pleated beret, which is included in the set, was an absolutely typical headgear for scholars, artists, and university students during the Late Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

Today, this ensemble excels primarily in the fields of LARP, cosplay, and fantasy festivals. It is the ideal choice for characters such as wizards, warlocks, dark priests, or members of secret cults. Thanks to its loose fit, it offers excellent comfort and allows you to wear additional layers of clothing underneath on chilly evenings.

Material and Its Benefits

The costume is made of 100% natural materials, which ensure good breathability and an authentic look:

• Fustian / Cotton Velour (100% cotton): A sturdy, densely woven fabric with a brushed face side. It looks and feels like velvet but is more durable and easier to maintain. It forms the main body of the robe.
• 100% Cotton: Used for the inner lining of the flared sleeves and for small details. It is pleasant to the touch and absorbs sweat very well.

How to Properly Care for Your Robe

To ensure the cotton velour retains its "velvety" appearance, it requires gentle handling. We recommend washing the robe either by hand or in the washing machine on a very gentle cycle at a maximum temperature of 30 °C (86 °F). Use mild detergents without bleach. Do not wring the robe by twisting it, and under no circumstances should you dry it in a tumble dryer – the material could shrink and lose its texture. Ideally, dry it hanging on a coat hanger in a well-ventilated room. Ironing is possible only from the reverse (inside) on a lower setting.

Since this is a garment with extremely wide and loose sleeves made of cotton, you must pay immense attention near open flames. If you are performing "rituals" with candles or torches, or moving around a campfire with this robe, there is a high risk of the sleeves catching fire! The costume also provides absolutely no protection for historical fencing or LARP combat; it is purely a decorative and atmospheric garment.

Recommended Accessories

With this mystical robe, we recommend acquiring a sturdy leather belt with a brass buckle and an alchemical leather pouch for potion vials, corresponding to the style of the 15th century.
