Peter von Danzig HEMA Practice Longsword with Faceted Pommel, Black Leather
The Ideal Weapon for Full-Contact Fencing and Sparring
When you grip this sword for the first time, you will immediately appreciate its well-thought-out dynamics. The robust grip is carefully covered in black leather and equipped with clearly pronounced risers. Thanks to these, the sword will not twist in your hand, even when using thick protective gloves. The 23 cm (9.1 inches) long crossguard is shaped into a slight curve (horned design), which not only helps in catching the opponent's blade but also shifts the point of balance closer to the hilt. The entire hilt is firmly secured with a massive, peened, faceted scent-stopper pommel. Its weight perfectly balances the 90 cm (35.4 inches) long blade, placing the point of balance a mere 10 cm (3.9 inches) from the crossguard. The sword thus reacts with lightning speed and precisely follows your movements.
The Legacy of Fencing Masters and Historical Context
This sword is inspired by the longswords of the 15th century, which would be classified in Oakeshott's typology as categories XVa or XVIIIa. It was exactly during this fascinating era that the renowned master Peter von Danzig was active. His name is associated with one of the most important fencing manuscripts of the so-called Liechtenauer tradition, and we have named this replica in his honour. To ensure fencers of that time survived rigorous training without fatal injuries, they used specially modified practice swords with blunt edges and rounded or widened tips. Our replica follows directly in their footsteps, offering you the opportunity to safely train the techniques of the old masters whilst utilising modern metallurgical processes.

Weapon Care and Safety Guidelines
This weapon is a fully functional practice tool for Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA). However, for it to serve you reliably for many years, it requires regular care. After every training session, it is absolutely essential to clean the steel blade of sweat and treat it with a thin layer of gun oil to prevent rust formation. We recommend occasionally treating the leather parts of the sword and scabbard with a leather balm. Under no circumstances should you strike hard and unyielding objects such as wooden posts, stones, or metal pipes, as this could cause irreversible damage to the material. Although the weapon has blunt edges and a rounded safety tip (spatula), it is still a substantial piece of steel. During practice and free sparring, it is essential to use a certified fencing mask, a padded jacket (gambeson), throat protection, and special heavy HEMA gloves. Safety must always come first.
Quality and Tradition of the Swordier Brand
The weapon is a proud representative of the premium SWH series by the respected manufacturer Swordier. For products in this series, the heat treatment process of the spring steel is carried out directly in the manufacturer's own factory, guaranteeing flawless control over the final hardness and durability of the blade. These magnificent swords are born in the Chinese city of Longquan (Zhejiang province), whose famous history of metalworking spans over 2,600 years. The makers behind the Swordier brand are not just ordinary manufacturers; they are true enthusiasts who "live steel". For them, a sword represents a timeless symbol of strength, honour, and craftsmanship perfection, where ancient forging arts blend with the needs of today's fencers.
