The buckle features an elegant, symmetrical design composed of a double loop, reminiscent of stylised leaves. A sturdy central bar runs across the middle, holding a gently tapered pin for securing the strap. The entire buckle is cast from solid bronze, giving it substantial weight and durability. You can choose from two distinct finishes:

• Polished Bronze: A bright, golden surface that evokes the look of a newly crafted, high-status item.
• Antiqued Bronze: A darker, aged appearance with a patina that gives the impression of a well-used historical artefact.

Buckles of a similar design were widely used across Europe during the 14th and 15th centuries. A Point of Interest: The Art of Lost-Wax Casting

The lost-wax casting method used to create this buckle is one of the world's oldest metallurgical techniques, with origins stretching back thousands of years. The craftsman first creates a perfect model of the item from wax, which is then encased in a clay mould. When the mould is fired, the wax melts and runs out (hence "lost wax"), leaving a cavity into which molten metal is poured. After the metal cools and the mould is broken, a precise metal casting remains.

How to Use and Care for Your Buckle

Attaching the buckle to a leather strap is straightforward. Loop the end of the strap through the central bar, fold it over, and secure it with one or two rivets or by sewing it firmly.

• Store the buckle in a dry place to prevent the natural formation of a heavy patina (verdigris).
• The Polished Bronze version can be buffed from time to time with a soft cloth to maintain its shine.
• Gently wipe the Antiqued Bronze version to preserve its aged appearance.
• Never use harsh abrasives or brushes for cleaning, as they could scratch the fine details of the casting.
