Franco-Burgundian Sallet Helmet | 15th Century | 18 Gauge Steel
Designed for Visibility and Mobility
Unlike restrictive closed helms, this open-faced sallet offers unobstructed vision and excellent ventilation. This makes it a favourite among archers, crossbowmen, and light infantry who need to survey the battlefield clearly. The design features a classic ridged skull that flows into a protective tail at the back, while hinged cheek pieces offer protection to the face without compromising your ability to breathe or communicate.
The helmet is crafted from sturdy 18-gauge mild steel (approx. 1.2 mm). It features a polished finish that looks striking on display or in the field. Designed with comfort in mind, it includes a pre-installed padded liner made from robust canvas and thick quilted padding. A genuine leather strap with a solid brass buckle ensures the helmet stays securely in place.

Usage and Maintenance
This helmet is ideal for LARP, historical re-enactment, and costume use. Please note: As this helmet is made from 18-gauge mild steel, it is not rated for full-contact heavy combat (such as Buhurt or Battle of the Nations), as heavy steel weapons may deform the metal.
Mild steel requires care to prevent rust. Always wipe the helmet dry after use and apply a light coat of oil (mineral oil or gun oil). Store in a dry environment. The leather strap should be treated with leather conditioner occasionally to keep it supple.
Recommendation: For a complete 15th-century look and added neck protection, pair this sallet with a steel bevor (sold separately).
