Leather Bracers Ranger – Forearm Guard for Archers & Hunters

Comfort and Custom Fit

The bracers are made from sturdy cowhide, which is pliable enough not to restrict your wrist movement. Putting them on is very easy. There is lacing with metal eyelets on the inner side of the forearm. Using the soft cotton cord, you can tighten the bracer exactly as you need – whether you wear it on bare skin or over the sleeve of a tunic or gambeson. The shape is anatomically designed to cover key areas from the wrist to just below the elbow, with the upper edge elegantly curved to allow for better arm flexion.

Historical Context

Historically, bracers (often called vambraces in a broader sense) were an essential part of every archer's kit. The force of a bowstring snapping against an unprotected forearm could cause painful bruising that would take an archer out of the fight. While heavy infantry used metal plate armor, light infantry and hunters preferred leather. Leather was accessible, lightweight, and could be easily repaired in the field. The color differentiation seen on this model might have served in the past to identify allegiance to a specific warband or simply as an aesthetic choice reflecting the owner's taste.

Care Instructions

This is a natural product that requires your attention to last for years:

  • Regularly treat the leather with leather balm or beeswax. This prevents the material from drying out and cracking.
  • If the bracers get wet from sweat or rain, let them dry naturally at room temperature. Never place them near a radiator or open fire, as the leather would harden and become brittle.
  • Wipe off dirt with a damp cloth; do not use harsh chemicals.

Safety Warning

Although the leather is approximately 3 mm thick, please keep in mind that this is a costume accessory or protection for archery. These bracers are not intended as protective armor for full-contact combat (buhurt, Battle of the Nations) with steel weapons. A blow from a sword or axe could cause serious injury.

For the ultimate ranger look, we recommend combining these bracers with a leather belt pouch and a quality historical bow.
