Set of 10 Solid Brass "Pyramid Tip" Aglets, 3.8 cm

Give your historical garment the final touch of authenticity and function with this set of ten solid brass aglets. These small but essential fittings, also known as points or aiglets, were key to any laced garment from the 14th to the 16th centuries. Their primary purpose was to reinforce the end of a lace, allowing it to be easily threaded through eyelets. Unlike lighter, rolled-sheet versions, these aglets are crafted from solid cast brass, giving them a satisfying weight, durability, and historical fidelity. They are the ideal component for any re-enactor, LARPer, or costumer who values high-quality, period-correct details. Further product information ...

Set of 10 Solid Brass "Pyramid Tip" Aglets, 3.8 cm

The Key to Perfect Lacing

The design of these aglets is simple, elegant, and highly practical. The smooth cylindrical body ends in a sharp, pyramid-shaped tip that glides effortlessly through even tightly stitched eyelets on your arming doublet, gambeson, or gown. A small hole on the side is used to securely fasten the aglet to the lace.

How to Attach

Attaching the aglets is straightforward. Here is the most common historical method:

  1. Prepare the end of your lace (e.g., cotton, linen, or leather). If it frays, you can bind it tightly with thread or dip it in wax to stiffen and point the end.
  2. Firmly push the lace end into the hollow part of the aglet.
  3. Take a strong needle and sturdy thread (linen is ideal for authenticity).
  4. Pass the thread through the side hole of the aglet and through the lace within, sewing back and forth several times to securely attach the aglet.
  5. Knot the thread securely. Alternatively, for a very strong bond, a small rivet can be used, or the aglet can be carefully crimped with pliers.

Brass Care

Brass is a durable material that will naturally darken and develop a patina over time. Many history enthusiasts prefer this antiqued look. If you wish to maintain a bright shine, you can polish the aglets from time to time with a soft cloth and a suitable brass cleaner. Store them in a dry environment to slow the oxidation process.
