A Decorative and Functional Fastening
The flat round head of these rivets provides a smooth, clean look that won't snag on clothing. Thanks to their properties, they are ideal for:
- Luxury Leather Goods: Attaching buckles and fittings to belts, bags, knife sheaths, and diaries where aesthetics are a priority.
- Decorative Elements on Armour: Creating ornamental lines or attaching brass edging and accessories to helmets and plate components for a lavish appearance.
- Historical Replicas: Perfect for reconstructions where decoration was key, such as on dagger belts or ceremonial armour.
The Historical Use of Brass
Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, has been prized for its golden lustre and corrosion resistance since ancient times. In the Middle Ages and Renaissance, it was a symbol of wealth and was widely used to make scientific instruments, ecclesiastical objects, and especially luxury fittings for armour, buckles, buttons, and mounts. By using these brass rivets, you are continuing a centuries-old tradition of craftsmanship and taste.
How to Set Rivets Correctly (Cold Setting)
The process is similar to setting steel rivets, but remember that brass is softer and requires a gentler touch.
- Prepare the Hole: Create a hole of about 4 mm in diameter in your material.
- Insert the Rivet: Push the rivet through the hole.
- Support the Head: Place the rivet head on a solid surface (ideally a rivet set) to avoid damaging it.
- Trim the Shank: The shank should protrude by about 4-5 mm. Trim it if it is longer.
- Form the Shop Head: With a ball-peen hammer, carefully and gently peen the end of the shank into a second head. Use lighter blows, as brass is easier to shape than steel.

Care and Maintenance
Brass does not rust, but it will naturally tarnish over time, acquiring a noble patina. If you wish to maintain its original shine, you can occasionally polish the rivets with a suitable brass cleaner. To preserve the patina, simply wipe with a dry cloth.
