14th Century Great Helm with Brass Cross

In the late 13th and early 14th centuries, the great helm reached its most elegant form. At this time, the knight's head was completely enclosed and well protected from all sides, making this type of helmet more suitable for the hustle and bustle of battle and close combat than the older protection of a nasal helmet, which focused primarily on the knight's defence against attacks from the front.
