Bucket helmet with fixed visor, 13th century

In the 12th century, knights recognised the need to protect the face, which until then had only been protected by the nasal. The addition of a face shield (fixed visor) improved the protection of the head against attacks from the front, e.g. from spears or flying arrows. This helmet is inspired by a 13th century original from the British Museum. The fixed visor of this bucket helmet is perforated with 26 oval openings. Bucket helmet with fixed visor, 13th century

This bucket helmet with fixed visor is handmade from 1.6 mm thick mild steel. The leather liner inside the helmet absorbs shocks and provides the necessary comfort when wearing the helmet. With an approximate inner circumference of 68 cm, the helmet is suitable for most male head sizes (including the padded arming cap and chain mail coif).
