The seax (or scramasax) was an absolutely indispensable tool and everyday weapon for Germanic tribes, Anglo-Saxons, and, naturally, Norse Vikings throughout the early Middle Ages. This particular model, with its characteristically angled blade spine, references the morphology of the so-called broken-back seax, which was immensely popular, especially in the British Isles between the 9th and 11th centuries. While wealthy Jarls wielded long swords, the common warrior relied in the close-quarters combat of a shield wall, as well as when skinning game and performing camp chores, entirely on this versatile, single-edged type of blade.
