Italian Breastplate "Churburg" – Cuirass c. 1390
Transport yourself to the era of knightly tournaments and the turbulent end of the 14th century with this masterful replica of an Italian breastplate. The model for this cuirass is the famous specimen (No. 14) from Churburg Castle in South Tyrol, dated around 1390. This piece of armour represents an important evolutionary step, moving from segmented coats of plates to large, anatomically shaped steel plates. Thanks to its typical globose (spherical) shape, it offers not only excellent protection but also the elegance typical of Italian armouring. Made of 1.6 mm (16 gauge) steel, it provides the durability needed for both the battlefield and the tournament arena. Further product information ...

Deflective Protection Technology
The domed shape of the chest is not merely aesthetic. It was designed with a clear purpose – to deflect blows. A sword blade or spear point slides more easily off the rounded surface, significantly reducing the impact energy transferred to the wearer's body. * Reinforcement: The upper chest is reinforced with a typical "V" profile with rivets, increasing rigidity in this critical area. * Mobility: Deep cutouts under the arms allow free arm movement during fencing without the plate getting in the way.
Fit and Comfort
To ensure the cuirass sits firmly on the body and does not restrict you in combat, it is equipped with a system of crossed leather straps on the back and a waist strap. All straps are made of genuine leather and fitted with steel buckles. The inside of the plate is treated with black anti-corrosion paint. For proper function, it is essential to wear the armour over a gambeson and ideally in combination with a chainmail shirt, as was customary in history.
Size Chart
Measured over the gambeson.

Historical and Modern Use
This type of cuirass originated in Northern Italy, which was the centre of the armouring craft at the time. Knights fought in it during the Hundred Years' War as well as in local Italian conflicts. Today, this piece of armour is sought after for its versatility and robustness. Ideal for: * Historical Fencing and Reenactment (period approx. 1380–1420) * LARP (knight roles, commanders) * Theatre and Film productions
Armour Maintenance
To keep your cuirass shining for the next battle: * The armour arrives oiled. Wipe it with a dry cloth before first use to avoid staining your costume. * Clean sweat and moisture from the steel after every use and re-oil it (WD40, silicone oil, Ballistol). * Store it in a dry place.
Safety Warning
Although the armour is made of high-quality 1.6 mm steel, it is not certified for full-contact sports like Buhurt/HMB, which have specific and stricter standards. However, it is perfectly adequate for standard historical fencing and stage combat.
