Hand-Forged Medieval Barbed Arrowhead, 3 Pcs

Appearance and Construction

This robust, hand-forged arrowhead features a pronounced triangular point and two long, sharply tapered barbs. These barbs extend to the sides and slightly backward. The entire piece has a dark, rough-forged surface that underscores its authentic and functional appearance. The bottom part is fitted with a conical socket, which allows for a firm attachment to a wooden arrow shaft.

Historical and Practical Use

How Can You Use This Arrowhead?

You can mount this arrowhead on a shaft to create a historical hunting or battle arrow. It is an excellent accessory for:

  • Historical Archery: Experience shooting with a replica of an authentic arrowhead.
  • Reenactment and LARP: A perfect and impressive detail for your medieval archer costume.
  • Collecting: Expand your collection of bladed weapons with a historically and technically interesting piece.
  • Crafting and DIY: Use it as a base for making your own replica arrows.

The Weapon That Did Not Return

In the Early and Late Middle Ages, barbed arrowheads were used in both war and hunting. Their primary purpose was to inflict the greatest possible injury and make it difficult to remove the arrowhead from the target. With sufficient speed, this head could pierce even mail armour, a gambeson, or a padded jack. Once the head penetrated living tissue, the barbs would catch, and its removal was extraordinarily difficult and painful. Without expert intervention, this often led to festering, sepsis, and the subsequent death of the injured person.

An Interesting Fact: A Tactical Advantage on the Battlefield

The ingenious design with barbs also had another tactical advantage in combat. After hitting an opponent, it often happened that the wooden arrow shaft would detach from the head, which remained stuck in the wound. This meant the enemy could not reuse the arrow and fire it back. They lost valuable ammunition, while the archers had more arrows available.

Care and Safety

How to Care for Your Arrowhead

Because the arrowhead is made of steel, it is susceptible to rust. To ensure it lasts as long as possible and maintains its appearance, we recommend regular maintenance. After each use, especially in a humid environment, dry it carefully. From time to time, wipe it with a cloth lightly soaked in a preservative oil (e.g., WD-40 or any gun oil). Store it in a dry place.

Safe Use

While the materials, construction, and craftsmanship would permit practical use, the manufacturer does not provide a warranty for damage incurred from live shooting. Therefore, we offer this arrowhead for purely decorative, collectible, or costume purposes.

Important Notice: This is a sharp object with functional points and edges. Exercise extreme caution during any handling, especially when mounting it on a shaft, to prevent injury. Never shoot towards people or animals. Always ensure you have a safe backdrop behind your target.
