Dark Brown Gothic Leather Low Shoes With Instep Tie

Historical Context And Practical Use

During the High Gothic period (especially in the 14th century), similar low shoes were an absolute standard across all social classes. Although today the delicate tying across the instep might seem more like women's fashion, in the Middle Ages, this elegant unisex model was also widely worn by men. A special feature of this model is the significantly raised back heel section, which perfectly protects the Achilles tendon and helps keep the shoe firmly on the foot even during faster movements. For the modern re-enactor and fencer, these historical leather shoes are equipped with a durable rubber sole. This will provide you with indispensable stability on wet grass or castle cobblestones, so you can fearlessly engage in a period dance or a quick dodge in combat.

Leather Care And Important Warnings

High-quality leather requires regular maintenance. The shoes are treated with a beeswax balm during production. After each event, clean off any dirt and grease them with a high-quality leather balm or cobbler's oil. This beautifully softens the material, partially prevents moisture penetration, and gives the leather a richer patina. Minor scuffs can be easily touched up with standard brown shoe polish. If a downpour catches you at an event, stuff the footwear with old newspaper and let it dry very slowly at room temperature. Never dry the boots on a radiator, near an open fire, or in harsh direct sunlight! Rapid drying would irreversibly damage the leather, causing it to harden and crack.

Recommended Accessories

To accompany these low medieval shoes, we highly recommend purchasing period knitted socks or historical chausses (leggings). This will excellently insulate your foot and also allow the elegant cut of the shoe around the ankle to stand out fully.
