Dark Brown Gothic Military Leather Ankle Boots Quentin
Historical Context And Practical Use In Combat
During the 14th century, a period rife with devastating conflicts, the infantry in France, England, and the Holy Roman Empire needed reliable and affordable footwear. While the high nobility experimented with extremely long pointed toes, common foot soldiers and mercenaries logically preferred practical ankle boots with a rounded toe that allowed for easy marching and fighting. The ingenious fastening using a leather strap that wraps around the ankle ensured the shoe did not get stuck in deep mud and stayed firmly on the foot. Today, this robust model perfectly serves all re-enactors and active Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) fencers. The rubber sole is carefully sewn to the leather using the so-called flexible method. It provides you with a safe and stable stance on modern surfaces, significantly reducing the risk of a dangerous slip during full-contact combat.

Sizes And Custom Tailoring
You can choose these military boots from our standard EU sizes. If you have an atypical foot shape, a very high instep, or simply demand absolute comfort, we are happy to provide custom tailoring. Select the custom option when choosing your size, and carefully fill out our measurement chart after submitting your order. If you use orthopaedic insoles and want to wear them in the shoes, it is absolutely essential to send them to us in advance. The shoemaker will precisely and professionally integrate them directly into the footbed so the footwear fits you flawlessly and does not pinch anywhere.
Leather Care And Safety Warnings
Leather is a natural material that quickly loses its durability without regular maintenance, especially after gruelling weekends on muddy battlefields. The boots are treated with a beeswax balm during production. After each event, clean off coarse dirt and regularly grease them with a high-quality leather balm or special cobbler's oil. This softens the leather, partially waterproofs it, and gives it a beautiful patina. Minor scratches from fencing can be easily touched up with standard dark brown shoe polish. If the footwear gets wet, stuff it with newspaper and let it dry very slowly at normal room temperature. Never dry the boots on a hot radiator, too close to a campfire, or in harsh, direct sunlight! Rapid drying would cause the leather to irreversibly harden and crack.
Recommended Accessories
To prevent painful blisters during long marches in full armour, we strongly recommend purchasing thick historical woollen socks or period linen foot wraps to wear with these boots, perfectly complementing your military camp attire.
