Samurai Wakizashi Dragon with Hand-Forged 1045 Carbon Steel Blade

Traditional Construction and Symbolism

The heart of this sword is a blade forged from 1045 carbon steel. This material provides a good balance between hardness and flexibility, which is crucial for Japanese swords. The blade is made in the traditional Shinogi-Zukuri style with a fuller (Bo-Hi), which reduces the weight of the sword and produces a characteristic sound when cutting the air. The temper line (hamon) on this model is created by a cosmetic wire brush technique, giving the sword the authentic look of historical originals without increasing the price through the complex process of differential hardening.

The dominant feature is the guard (Tsuba), which bears a detailed motif of a coiled dragon. The handle (Tsuka) is underlaid with real ray skin and wrapped with black cotton cord in the classic Hineri-Maki style, ensuring a firm and secure grip. The overall impression is underscored by the black lacquered scabbard (Saya) in a high-gloss Kuroro style.

Usage and Safety

Historically, the Wakizashi was the inseparable companion of the samurai. While the warrior had to leave his katana at the door when entering a house, the wakizashi (as the "guardian of honour") remained at his belt. Together they formed a pair called Daisho.

This sword has a sharp blade. Although 1045 steel is of good quality, this specific model is primarily intended for:

  • Practicing forms (Kata) and drawing (Iaido) – with maximum caution.
  • As a collector's and decorative item.
  • Costume accessory (beware of the sharp edge!).

Warning: The sword is not intended for contact fencing (blade on blade) or for heavy cutting (tameshigiri) on bamboo or hard wood. There is a risk of damaging the blade.

Poměr cena/kvalita je velmi dobrá. Wakizashi je velmi ostrá už z výroby, dobře seká a dobře padne do ruky.
