Kobuse Construction: Heart of a Warrior
What makes this sword exceptional lies within the blade. It was hand-forged using the complex traditional Kobuse style. This technique involves a hard jacket of 1095 high-carbon steel surrounding a core of softer, low-carbon steel. As a result, the sword combines extreme edge hardness and sharpness with flexibility and resistance to breakage. Furthermore, the blade is differentially hardened (approx. 60 HRC at the edge, 40 HRC at the spine), highlighting the genuine, finely crafted temper line (hamon).
Artistic Craftsmanship and Details
The beauty of the blade is complemented by top-quality mounting (koshirae). The handle is covered with real ray skin and wrapped in dark green silk in the Katate-maki style (battle wrap), historically favoured for its durability and firm grip. The fittings (tsuba, fuchi, menuki, kashira) are decorated with detailed floral reliefs inlaid with precious metals. The high-gloss black lacquered scabbard features reinforcements made of real buffalo horn.
