Pocket Honing Stone "Natural Arkansas"
If you are a true connoisseur of sharp edges and won't settle for just any sharpening job, this Natural Arkansas stone is exactly the missing link in your kit. It is made of the legendary metamorphic rock Novaculite, mined in the Ouachita Mountains of North America. Thanks to its extremely fine grit (estimated 6000 to 8000), this stone is not intended for coarse grinding, but for final polishing and honing the edge to razor-sharp perfection. It is a small but powerful tool for surgeons, woodcarvers, and demanding outdoorsmen who require scalpel-like sharpness even in the wild. We supply it in a practical synthetic leather pouch, so you can safely carry it in your pocket or pack. Further product information ...

Pocket Honing Stone "Natural Arkansas" in Pouch
Usage: Masterful Finishing Touches
Unlike water stones, Natural Arkansas requires oil as a honing medium (special honing oil or even ordinary mineral oil in a pinch). Oil keeps the stone's pores clean and ensures the blade glides smoothly.
Use this stone as the final step in the sharpening process:
- Apply a few drops of oil to the stone.
- Place the blade at the correct angle and polish the bevel with gentle strokes "against the edge" or in circular motions.
- The goal is to remove the "wire edge" (burr) created on coarser stones and polish the edge to a mirror finish.
- It is ideal for field maintenance of hunting knives, chisels, razors, or carving tools.
Historical Insight: The Stone That Made History
Novaculite, the material this whetstone is made from, is one of humanity's oldest tool materials. Native Americans in what is now Arkansas mined it thousands of years ago to produce extremely sharp arrowheads and spear points. In the 19th and 20th centuries, "Arkansas Stones" became the worldwide standard for sharpening surgical instruments and dental tools before being partially displaced by modern ceramics. You now hold a piece of this geological history in your hand. Since it is a natural product, each piece is unique.
Care and Maintenance
The natural stone is practically indestructible in use but brittle if dropped. After use, wipe the stone with a cloth to remove the mixture of oil and metal particles. Occasionally, you can clean it with a brush and soapy water, but let it dry completely before storing it in the pouch. The blue "Natur-Arkansas" print on the side guarantees the authenticity of the material.
