History and Use of the Double Buckle

This type of sturdy rectangular buckle with a fixed central bar and a single prong corresponds to historical finds from the reign of the Tudor dynasty, specifically from the years 1485 to 1600. During the Renaissance, when great emphasis was placed on layering heavy fabrics and carrying weapons directly on the belt, a reliable and strong buckle was an absolute necessity. The double frame distributed the tension of the strap and ensured that the belt would not accidentally unfasten even under the weight of a full coin pouch or a sword.

This product is a precise hand casting made of brass. Its use and attachment to the strap are straightforward, as dictated by historical practice. You simply fold the belt leather over the central axis of the buckle so that the prong passes through the prepared hole in the strap. Then, you firmly sew the leather together with linen or waxed thread, or fix it with brass rivets. When fastening, the free end of the belt is threaded through one window, secured with the prong, and tucked under the other side of the frame, which also acts as a belt loop.

Brass is a beautiful material that naturally develops a darker patina over time and with wear, which adds to the authenticity of the buckle. However, if you prefer a high shine, we recommend you occasionally polish it with a special brass cleaner and a soft cloth. Avoid contact with harsh chemicals and acids. The buckle is designed exclusively for clothing accessories; for safety reasons, never use it as a securing element for climbing, suspending heavy loads, or in harnesses where material failure could cause injury!
