This type of short sword is not an exact replica of a specific archaeological find but is based on a romanticized vision of the weaponry of Crusader commanders. Historically, swords or daggers of similar length served as secondary weapons for close-quarters combat when a lance or longsword failed. Sword Care
Even though the steel is stainless, dust and fingerprints do not look good on it. Polish the sword occasionally with a soft cloth. If you take it outdoors in damp conditions, a thin film of silicone oil will help protect the blade.
