Historical Context And Modern Usage
In the 14th and 15th centuries, European men's fashion gradually moved away from loose, baggy trousers. The taste of the era demanded much tighter cuts, giving rise to joined chausses (the direct predecessors of modern trousers) that closely hugged the legs. Although the chausses we offer are made of modern 100% polyester for the sake of durability and easy maintenance, they perfectly simulate the look of the tight legwear commonly worn by ordinary burghers, rugged mercenaries, and noble lords during the Late Middle Ages across Europe. Today, you will find this piece fantastic as a comfortable under-layer beneath a gambeson for Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA), as a universal basic garment for LARP and fantasy cosplay, or as an integral part of your theatrical costume.
Caring For Your Garment
Since the chausses are sewn from durable 100% polyester (PES), maintaining them is pleasantly straightforward. We recommend washing them in the washing machine on a gentle cycle at a mild 30 °C (86 °F). Strictly avoid using a tumble dryer or any harsh bleach; simply hang the trousers up after washing and let them air dry freely. Ironing is generally not necessary at all with this material. However, if you do decide to iron them, make absolutely sure to use only the lowest possible temperature setting on your iron to avoid accidentally scorching or melting the synthetic fibres.

These black chausses perfectly complement a pair of ankle-high leather medieval shoes or tall boots, along with a long linen tunic firmly cinched at the waist with a robust leather belt. Please note that the shoes, green tunic, and leather belt shown in the illustrative photographs are not included in the delivery.
