Tall Leather Medieval Lace-Up Boots with Decorative Band Posel

Footwear for Adventurers and Travellers

Tall boots were the privilege of travellers, messengers, and soldiers in the Middle Ages and the Early Modern period, providing them with the necessary calf protection from thorns, mud, and inclement weather. This model is characterised by elaborate lacing that extends from the instep to the top edge of the shaft. This allows you to tighten the boot perfectly to the circumference of your leg, guaranteeing a firm step. The beautifully darkened (burnished) toe cap and the light leather band on the top edge also catch the eye, giving the boots a slight fantasy or ranger look. They are an ideal choice for anyone who spends time at LARP events and historical encampments.

Technical Parameters of the Footwear

Upper Material High-quality cowhide leather
Sole Material Smooth leather / period sole
Boot Height approx. 29 cm / 11.4 in

Proper Care and Information on Colours

For your boots to serve you as long as possible, they require your regular care. Straight from production, they are treated with a beeswax balm. Regularly rub leather oil or a high-quality wax balm into the leather. The material will thus be nourished, softened, and better resist moisture. The leather will darken slightly after applying the balm. Always allow wet boots to dry very slowly at room temperature. Under no circumstances should you dry them near a blazing fire, on a radiator, or in direct sunlight – the leather would irreparably stiffen and crack. Scuffs can be hidden with standard shoe polish.

We supply the shoes as standard in black, dark brown, and light (natural) colours. If you choose another shade, bear in mind that it is achieved by applying a special covering lacquer. This layer may crack or flake over time in the stressed areas and bends of the leather. For occasional events, this is perfectly adequate, but for extreme stress, we strongly recommend you choose naturally dyed leather.

Safe Wear and Custom Production

Keep in mind that a period smooth sole behaves differently on wet grass, in mud, or on smooth cobblestones than modern trekking rubber. Exercise increased caution when running or fighting to avoid slipping. If you wear orthotic insoles and choose our custom-made sizing option, it is absolutely essential that you physically post these insoles to us. We will seat them precisely into your new boots to provide you with maximum comfort all day long.

We highly recommend you purchase period linen hose and woollen socks from our range to accompany these tall boots, as they will perfectly complement your overall appearance.
