Stage Combat Arming Sword with Patinated Blade – 12th Century Style
Battle-Hardened Look and Robust Construction
Typologically, this sword corresponds to weapons from the 11th to 13th centuries (the classic Knightly Sword or Arming Sword). The blade is hand-forged, and its surface bears a deliberate patina that mimics forging marks and the age of the material. A distinct fuller (blood groove) lightens the blade, although it remains a heavier piece, suitable even for strength training. The blade has a blunt striking edge (approx. 2.5 mm) and a rounded tip for greater safety during practice. The grip is wrapped in black leather and secured by a threaded pommel with a recessed nut. This allows you to easily tighten the entire assembly if it loosens after a tough fight.

Historical Context: The Knight's Faithful Companion
Swords of this type were the primary sidearm of knights and men-at-arms during the Crusades. The simple cross-shaped guard and disc pommel are classic features of the High Middle Ages. While the nobility might have had swords decorated with gold and gems, the common soldier relied on simple and functional steel, exactly like this replica. On the battlefield, this sword would typically be used in combination with a large heater shield or a buckler.

Sword Care
Due to the patinated finish, the sword is less prone to visible scratches, but it still requires protection against rust. Wipe the blade with a dry cloth after each use and apply a thin layer of preservative oil (e.g., WD-40 or Ballistol). Occasionally treat the leather on the grip with leather conditioner to prevent it from cracking due to sweat. Check that the pommel is tight before each use.
Important Safety Warning
Although the manufacturer labels this sword as suitable for stage combat, they do not provide a warranty against blade breakage. For this reason, we sell it as a decorative replica without a breakage warranty. Any practical use for fencing, training, or contact combat is strictly at your own risk. Due to the higher weight (1.65 kg), be careful when handling to avoid injuring yourself or your sparring partner.
A sturdy leather belt frog would certainly be useful for this sword, keeping it always within reach.
