Wooden Training Katana "Toširó" – Hornbeam with Wrapped Handle

Strength of Hornbeam and Secure Grip

Hornbeam is one of the hardest and densest woods available in Europe. This makes the bokken highly resistant to impact and wear, a feature you will appreciate during contact training (e.g., in Aikido, Kenjutsu, or Kendo). A significant advantage of the Toširó model is the handle wrapped in cotton tape (tsuka-ito). This detail is not merely aesthetic – the wrapping absorbs sweat and ensures the sword does not slip from your palm during dynamic training, a common issue with smooth, lacquered bokkens.

History and Usage

Historically, the bokken was not just a training tool; legendary swordsmen like Miyamoto Musashi won duels using them against steel blades. Your Toširó bokken is designed to faithfully simulate the weight and balance of a real katana. It comes supplied with a plastic guard (tsuba) and a rubber retaining ring (dome) to protect your hands. Besides the dojo, it is also excellent as a safe prop for cosplayers who want a realistic look while adhering to safety regulations.

Care for Your Wooden Sword

Although hornbeam is hard, it is still a natural material. Store the sword in a dry place. If splinters or dents appear on the wood during contact fencing, sand them down immediately with fine sandpaper and treat the area with linseed oil. This prevents injury to yourself or your training partner.
