Tsuru Iaito – Refined Stainless Steel Training Katana with Silk Wrap
Exquisite Craftsmanship and Crane Symbolism
The design of this sword is a tribute to Japanese tradition, focusing on both balance and beauty. Every component is meticulously finished:
- Tsuba (Guard): A blackened iron openwork (sukashi) guard featuring a pattern reminiscent of crane wings or flowing water.
- Kashira and Fuchi: The hilt fittings feature highly detailed silver-colored flying crane motifs.
- Tsuka (Handle): Features genuine black rayskin (Same) wrapped with premium black silk Ito. The silk provides a superior grip and a refined tactile experience compared to cotton.
- Menuki and Habaki: These silver-finished elements provide a striking contrast against the dark hilt, emphasizing the sword's high-end construction.
- Saya (Scabbard): The deep black lacquered scabbard includes a unique rayskin inlay between the Koiguchi and Kurikata, a luxury detail that enhances both grip and visual appeal.

History, Care, and Safety
The crane (Tsuru) was historically revered in Japan as a bird of 1,000 years, symbolizing luck and endurance. Modern Iaitos allow practitioners to train in the art of Iaido without the danger of an open edge. Stainless steel is more resistant to sweat than carbon steel, but we still recommend wiping the blade with a soft cloth after every session. Regularly check the mekugi (bamboo pins) to ensure the hilt remains secure.
IMPORTANT WARNING: This is a blunt training tool. Never attempt to sharpen the blade. It is not designed for contact drills or target cutting (Tameshigiri). Improper use may result in blade failure and serious injury.
We recommend using a sword maintenance kit and a padded sword bag for safe storage and transport to your Dojo.
