Luxurious Late Gothic Leather Belt Pouch with Heraldic Lilies
Historical Context and Unique Craftsmanship
The heraldic lily (fleur-de-lis) is an ancient symbol of purity and, above all, the symbol of the French monarchy, widely used in heraldry from the High Middle Ages through the Renaissance and into the Baroque period. This belt pouch reflects the fashion of the wealthier classes of the Late Gothic and early Renaissance periods. It is made using highly demanding leatherworking technology – the front part is hot-pressed over a special mould. This creates a seamless, deep, and exceptionally rigid interior space that does not collapse even when empty and holds its shape perfectly. The lower rounded edges of the pouch are further reinforced and decorated with hand-braided leather lacing. The flap features fine tooling along the edge and is reinforced to withstand frequent opening without deformation.
How to Wear and Secure the Pouch
The pouch is designed to be worn reliably on a belt. Securely stitched to its back is a massive back shield from which two wide leather loops emerge. You can easily thread even a thicker historical belt through these loops, ensuring the pouch will not annoyingly flap around at your side. The safe closure of your coins and personal belongings is ensured by a leather strap with a beautifully decorated metal buckle. For easier threading and as an additional aesthetic element, the very tip of the fastening strap is equipped with a metal strap end (chape) bearing a floral motif.

How to Care for Your Molded Leather Pouch
Smooth cowhide is an exceptionally high-quality and sturdy material that will retain its beauty for decades if properly cared for. We recommend treating the leather (excluding the metal parts) occasionally with a high-quality leather balm or beeswax. This will increase its water resistance and keep it supple, ensuring the flap does not crack at the fold. If you are caught in heavy rain at a historical event and the pouch gets wet, always let it dry very slowly at normal room temperature. Under no circumstances should you dry the leather near a radiant fire, on a hot radiator, or in direct sunlight – the molded shape could deform, and the leather would irreversibly harden. Also, avoid overstuffing the pouch with excessively bulky items so as not to damage the fastening buckle. Do not wash the product in a washing machine and do not use chemical solvents.
Please note: Because the pouch is handcrafted from natural leather, slight variations in colour and surface texture may occur. These characteristics make each piece a unique original and do not reduce its practical value.
To perfectly complement this representative pouch, we highly recommend purchasing a high-quality leather belt with a historical buckle from our range to bring your noble costume to absolute perfection.
