Nylon-Reinforced FITA Archery Target Face for Indoor Practice
History of Target Archery and Modern Standards
Archery has accompanied humanity from prehistoric times, through the famous English longbowmen at Crécy, to the modern Olympic arenas. While medieval archers practised on straw targets, earthen mounds, or wooden marks, today's sports and recreational archery requires strictly standardized dimensions. This target face, with its traditional concentric rings (yellow, red, blue, black, and white), is based on the modern rules of the World Archery Federation (formerly FITA). This specific colour-coding was established in the 20th century to enhance visibility and allow for highly accurate scoring. The so-called composite centre (the yellow middle featuring a small cross) is used to determine the exact point of impact.
Installation and Safe Usage
The target is primarily intended for indoor archery at a distance of 25 metres (approx. 27 yards), but it will serve you equally well during outdoor practice. To set it up, you need a suitable backstop – ideally a straw, foam, or stramit target butt. You simply attach the face to this backstop using special target pins pushed through the edges.
Never attach the target face to trees, wooden boards, or stone walls! Your arrows will be destroyed, they could ricochet dangerously, and they might cause serious injury to you or bystanders. Always ensure that the area behind your target is completely clear, safe, and devoid of people or animals.
Care and Maintenance
Since the paper is reinforced with a nylon mesh, the material can withstand mild moisture and is highly tear-resistant. However, for maximum longevity, we highly recommend removing the target face from the butt after your outdoor practice. Do not leave it exposed to heavy rain or constant direct sunlight, as this could cause the colours to fade prematurely.
