King Gold G-1 Japanese Whetstone – Grit 8000

Perfection in the Final Stage

This stone is not intended for sharpening dull knives, but for the final honing of an already sharp edge. The 8000 grit smooths out all microscopic scratches from previous sharpening stages (e.g., on 1000 or 6000 grit stones) and creates a perfectly smooth, mirror-like surface. The stone comes on a sturdy base that ensures stability and safety during work.

Function of the Nagura Stone

The package also includes a small yellow stone, called a Nagura. This is not used for sharpening the knife itself, but for maintaining the main stone. It is used to create a slurry (paste) before polishing begins and to clean the stone's surface if it becomes clogged with steel particles (turns black).

Instructions for Use

As a water stone, it requires soaking before use. Submerge it in clean water for at least 5 minutes until bubbles stop rising. Never use oil! This would permanently destroy the porous structure of the stone. Keep the surface wet while sharpening. Since this is a very fine stone, do not apply heavy pressure to the knife. A gentle, smooth motion, as if trying to slice a thin layer off the stone's surface, is sufficient.

Care and Maintenance

After use, rinse the stone with water and let it air dry naturally (not in the sun or near a heater, as it could crack). The stone is brittle; protect it from falling. Use a flattening stone to maintain a flat surface.
