Gothic Tall Leather Boots with Folded Cuff and Back Buckles

A Combination of Gothic Elegance and Practicality

Long, pointed toes were a typical feature of the High and Late Gothic periods. They indicated the high status of the wearer, who did not have to work in the fields. The folded cuff protected the knee and upper part of the calf when riding a horse or travelling through inclement terrain. The unique fastening system on the back of the calf using three leather straps and brass buckles is not only a beautiful visual detail but above all a highly practical element. It allows for easy putting on and precise tightening of the boot so that it sits firmly and comfortably on the foot even during longer walks.

How to Properly Care for Your Boots

For these leather boots to serve you in full beauty for many years, they require regular care. Straight from production, the leather is treated with a beeswax balm. Regularly rub high-quality leather oil or wax balm into the leather. This will nourish, soften, and waterproof the leather against moisture. Bear in mind that after applying the balm, the leather will naturally darken slightly. If you choose to have the boots made in a colour other than black, dark brown, or natural light, the colouring is achieved with a special covering layer. This layer may crack or flake over time in areas of bending – for occasional events, this is perfectly fine, but for harsh and frequent use, we recommend the basic shades. Always let wet boots dry slowly at room temperature. Never dry them near a fire, on a hot radiator, or in direct sunlight.

Practical Advice for Safe Wear

Keep in mind that a historical smooth leather sole behaves completely differently from modern treaded rubber. It can be highly slippery on wet grass, cobblestones, or in mud. Pay special attention to the elongated and upturned toe. Due to this Gothic beak, these boots are absolutely unsuitable for historical fencing, combat engagements, or running – you run a high risk of tripping and injury. They are designed for representative walking.

If you wear orthotic insoles and choose our custom-made sizing option, it is essential that you physically post these insoles to our address. They will be carefully seated directly into your new boots to ensure they fit your feet perfectly.

We highly recommend wearing historical close-fitting hose from our range with these tall boots, which you can easily tuck into them, thereby enhancing the authentic period look.
