High Gothic Leather Pull-On Boots with Pointed Toe and Cuff

Historical Context and Choosing the Right Height

Shoes with an elongated and pointed toe, often referred to as poulaines or crakows, dominated European fashion from the 12th to the 15th century. The longer the point, the higher the social status the wearer typically demonstrated. Furthermore, the wide folded cuff at the top adds volume to the boots and underlines the historical style. The standard height of these boots is 35 cm (13.8 in). If you opt for custom sizing, you can specify your own overall height (measured from the floor). For functional reasons, we strongly advise against ordering a height that would reach higher than 5 cm (2 in) below your kneecap, so the footwear does not restrict your knee flexion. The maximum possible height for production is around 48 cm (18.9 in).

Material, Toe Shapes, and Colour Variants

The boots are precisely sewn from high-quality cowhide. Although the pointed toe is standard for this model, the footwear can be made upon request with a historically documented blunt toe, or conversely, with an extremely elongated point curved back towards the instep (this extravagant variant incurs a surcharge).

The basic leather colours are black, dark brown, and light brown (natural). Other colour shades are achieved by applying a special topcoat dye. Please note that this topcoat shares the natural properties of patent leathers. Due to the stress and bending of the material, small cracks may form over time, or the coating may crumble locally. However, if you are looking for footwear primarily for occasional festivities or festivals, this surface treatment will serve you to your full satisfaction.

Leather Care and Safety Warnings

From the factory, the footwear is treated with a beeswax balm that softens, impregnates, and slightly tints the leather to a darker shade. To ensure the leather retains its long lifespan and flexibility, it is necessary to regularly nourish it with available products such as waxes, leather oils, or standard shoe polish. Shoe polish also easily covers any scuffs acquired while marching through terrain. Never dry the boots near a direct heat source, such as an open fire or a radiator, as the leather would irreversibly harden and crack.

Remember that historical footwear with a smoother sole requires caution from its wearer. On wet grass, in mud, and especially on smooth modern surfaces, there is an increased risk of slipping. If you wear orthotic insoles and choose custom-made boots, it is essential to send these insoles to us in advance. They will be carefully integrated directly into the footwear, ensuring the boots fit you absolutely perfectly.
