The cut of this tunic is rooted in European fashion of the 14th and 15th centuries (High and Late Gothic periods). During this time, men's clothing began to become more tailored and shorter. A popular element among the wealthier classes (nobility and rich patricians) was layering and combining contrasting fabrics. Richly gathered (puffed) sleeves made of a different material were meant to demonstrate the wearer's wealth – the more expensive fabric used, the higher their social status. The geometric trim around the neckline, sleeves, and bottom hem not only reinforced the edges but also served a prominent decorative function.

• Fustian / Cotton Velour (100% cotton): A strong, densely woven fabric with a gently brushed face side, visually evoking luxurious velvet or wool. It holds its shape excellently and provides more warmth, which you will especially appreciate at cooler spring and autumn events.
• Linen-Cotton Blend (70% linen, 30% cotton): A lightweight and highly breathable option. Linen is naturally antibacterial and excels at wicking away sweat, while the addition of cotton softens the fabric structure and reduces creasing. The ideal choice for the summer heat.

Care for Your Historical Garment

To ensure your tunic maintains its great appearance over the long term, we recommend machine washing it on a gentle cycle at a maximum temperature of 30 °C (86 °F). Use mild detergents without bleach. Do not spin the fabric at unnecessarily high speeds, and under no circumstances should you use a tumble dryer, to prevent the natural fibres from shrinking. Ideally, dry it hanging freely on a coat hanger in a well-ventilated room. Ironing is possible on a medium setting from the reverse (inside).

Cleaning and care of costumes

Given that the garment is made of natural materials and features somewhat wider sleeves, exercise heightened caution when moving near open flames (campfires, torches, fireplaces). The tunic serves a purely civil and aesthetic function – it is not armour or a padded gambeson. It provides absolutely no protection during contact historical fencing (HEMA, buhurt).

Please note that any other accessories shown in the photographs – such as the leather belt with buckle, leather pouch, trousers, and modern footwear – are not included in the delivery.

Recommended Accessories

For a flawless look, we recommend pairing this tunic with period linen braies and separate hose, along with a sturdy leather belt featuring a brass buckle. Do not forget high-quality leather footwear (turnshoes) corresponding to 14th-century fashion.
