Battle Ready "Vanguard" Longsword with Genuine Leather Grip

Historical Legacy and Construction

Typologically, this sword fits into the late medieval period (approx. 2nd half of the 15th century), when Oakeshott Type XVIIIb swords dominated the battlefields. The long hilt (33 cm / 13 in) allows for comfortable two-handed use and provides tremendous leverage for maneuvering and "winding" techniques. The characteristic faceted scent-stopper pommel and the crossguard slightly curved towards the blade are typical features of this era.

The blade is forged from spring steel and undergoes expert heat treatment. It features a distinct distal taper (from 6.5 mm to 3.5 mm), which is crucial for proper weight distribution. This makes the sword fast, responsive, and stable in the cut. Both the grip and the wooden core of the scabbard are covered in genuine leather, ensuring not only an authentic look but, more importantly, a firm and non-slip grip often missing in synthetic substitutes.

Usage and Maintenance

This is a "battle-ready" version delivered sharp. The sword is primarily intended for cutting practice (tameshigiri) on soft targets (tatami, plastic bottles, clay rolls) or for individual practice of forms and techniques.

Maintenance Advice: The blade is made of high-carbon steel, so it requires care. Clean it after every use and preserve it with oil (e.g., WD-40, Ballistol, or gun oil) to prevent rust. Treat the leather parts occasionally with beeswax or leather conditioner to keep them supple and prevent cracking.

Safety Warning

This sword is delivered with a sharp edge. Although structurally very durable, it is not intended for "edge-on-edge" contact sparring with other steel weapons. A sharp edge is more brittle than a blunt training edge, and hard contact with another sword would result in deep nicks and chipping. Please use it responsibly and prioritize your safety and that of those around you.
