Indestructible Polypropylene Bokken Training Sword in Traditional Katana Style
The Evolution of the Japanese Practice Sword
Wooden swords (known in Japanese as bokken or bokuto) have been used in Japan for centuries for the safe training of samurai, preventing fatal injuries during drills with a live katana (shinken). The polypropylene version brings this ancient tradition straight into the 21st century. It offers a profile that faithfully replicates the blade curvature (sori) and even features a moulded imitation of the temper line (hamon) along its surface. The weapon also includes a removable plastic handguard (tsuba) that safely protects your hands from an opponent's weapon sliding down the blade during a block.
Maintenance of Your Polypropylene Weapon
One of the greatest advantages of polypropylene is that this material is practically entirely maintenance-free. After an exhausting training session, simply wipe the weapon down with a damp cloth to remove sweat and dust. There is absolutely no need for the regular oiling or sanding of splinters that you would typically associate with traditional red or white oak alternatives.
Principles of Safe Contact Training
This bokken is primarily designed for contact martial arts training and kata sequences. Even though it lacks a sharp edge, bear in mind that it is a very hard and relatively heavy object. During full-contact sparring, we strongly advise you to wear appropriate protective gear (such as a Kendo helmet and padded gloves) to prevent severe bruising or broken fingers. This weapon is not suitable for full-contact LARP battles, where foam-padded weapons are the standard, as you could seriously injure your fellow players. To accompany your new training sword, we highly recommend acquiring a durable fabric sword bag for safe and comfortable transport to your dojo.
