Decorative Samurai Sword Set Daisho with Red Lacquered Scabbards

The Legacy of the Samurai and the Way of the Warrior

During feudal Japan, it was the exclusive right of the samurai class to wear a pair of swords, known as the daisho (literally "big and small"). It consisted of the long katana, used for open combat, and the shorter wakizashi, which was ideal for close-quarters fighting or ritual purposes. In this instance, the set is completed with a short personal dagger, the tanto. The supplied wooden stand features the traditional golden calligraphy 武士道 (Bushido), which translates to "The Way of the Warrior" – the moral code that governed the life of every true samurai.

Detailed Decorations and Koshirae

The swords are visually unified in a highly attractive design. The wooden handles (tsuka) are covered with imitation red ray skin (samegawa) and tightly bound with a traditional black cotton wrap (tsuka-ito). The guard (tsuba) is finished in a patinated bronze tone with a fine classic relief that perfectly matches the pommel (kashira) and the collar (fuchi). The wooden scabbards (saya) feature a rich, high-gloss red lacquer and are adorned with a sturdy black tying cord (sageo) on the kurigata.

Safety Guidelines and Maintenance

The blades of these weapons are made of carbon steel and visually mimic genuine historical weapons faithfully. However, for safety reasons, we must issue a very strict warning: these are exclusively decorative items and are under no circumstances suitable for practical use. The swords are not designed for tameshigiri (cutting tests), martial arts training, iaido, or any form of contact fencing. Attempting to swing or strike with them could lead to fatal structural failure and cause very serious injury to yourself or bystanders.

Even though this is a decorative piece, carbon steel is susceptible to rust. To keep the blades shiny and rust-free, they must be regularly preserved with a light gun oil or traditional clove oil (choji). You can simply wipe dust off the scabbards and the stand using a soft, dry microfibre cloth.
