Decorative Daisho Samurai Sword Set with White Dragon Motif
History and Symbolism of Daisho Swords
Historically, the Katana and Wakizashi formed an inseparable pair known as the Daisho (literally translated as "big and small"). Wearing both swords simultaneously tucked into the obi belt was an exclusive privilege and the ultimate symbol of the high social status of the samurai class. The long Katana served as the primary weapon in open combat and was considered the very soul of the warrior. The shorter Wakizashi, on the other hand, was utilised in the confined spaces of buildings, served as a reliable secondary weapon, or was used during the ritual suicide known as seppuku. The set is complemented by a classic black wooden stand (kake). On this stand, the swords are traditionally displayed with the cutting edge facing upwards. This effectively protects the edge from dulling and at the same time reflects the peaceful intentions of the host within the house.
Craftsmanship and Decorations of the Set
The blades of both swords are forged from mild steel, which guarantees a beautiful metallic shine and a highly authentic appearance. The handle (tsuka) features a traditional black cotton wrap (tsuka-ito), under which a white imitation ray skin (samegawa) aesthetically shines through. The visual impression is completed by a subtle circular guard (tsuba) separating the blade from the handle, and the pommel fittings (kashira). However, the absolutely dominant feature of the entire set is the precisely lacquered wooden scabbards (saya) with the striking, hand-applied motif of an Asian dragon in a white and red colour scheme.

Safety Warnings and Maintenance
Strong Warning: Please note that these are purely decorative and collector's items. The blades are not sharpened, do not have a full-tang construction designed to withstand impact, and are absolutely not intended for cutting tests (tameshigiri), contact fencing, or any martial arts training. Attempting to strike with them could result in a catastrophic structural failure and shattering, which could cause serious or fatal injury to yourself or bystanders!
To maintain their flawless appearance, we recommend regularly dusting the blades and wooden scabbards and wiping them with a dry, soft cloth. Protect the set from direct sunlight and excessive moisture, which could damage both the steel and the lacquered wooden parts. Always place the display stand in a stable location out of the reach of children.
Recommended Accessories
For the perfect maintenance and long-term conservation of the blades, we recommend purchasing a traditional Japanese sword cleaning kit from our range, which contains fine powder and clove oil to create a perfect protective film on the metal.
