Your Armour for Adventure

This type of armour is your ticket to any historical or fantasy event. Whether you are portraying a Norman warrior, a Viking raider, or a valiant castle defender, this haubergeon will provide you with an authentic look and basic protection.

  • LARP and Reenactment: Offers a fantastic visual effect and essential protection during combat with foam or latex weapons.
  • Theatre and Film: A perfect prop that adds historical accuracy to your character.
  • Costume Fairs and Festivals: You will be the center of attention in this armour. Its weight will also give you the feel of a true warrior.

Echoes of the Past

The haubergeon, a shorter version of the full-length chainmail hauberk, was exceptionally popular throughout the Early and High Middle Ages. Its shorter length and half-sleeves offered an excellent compromise between protection, weight, and mobility. It was used by various combatants—from light infantry and archers who valued freedom of movement, to knights who wore it under plate armour for additional protection. The "4-in-1" weave, where each ring is linked to four others, was the most common and proven standard.

The Advantage of Zinc-Plated Steel and Butted Rings

The choice of material and construction offers a range of benefits, especially for modern use.

  • Zinc-Plated Steel: The zinc coating protects the steel core from rust. This means you don't have to worry about constantly oiling it. The armour will keep its shiny, clean look for a long time.
  • Butted Rings: This method of linking, where the wire ends of the ring are pressed together without a rivet, significantly speeds up and reduces the cost of production. This allows you to get an authentic-looking piece of armour for a fraction of the price of riveted versions. For LARP and costume purposes, their strength is perfectly adequate.

A Piece of History

Did you know that making a single chainmail shirt in the Middle Ages could take several months? A skilled craftsman first had to draw the wire, coil it around a mandrel, cut the individual rings, and then painstakingly link them together. The price of such armour was equivalent to that of a small farm!

Caring for Your Armour

Thanks to the zinc-plated finish, maintenance is very simple.

  • Storage: Keep the shirt in a dry place to prevent mechanical damage.
  • Cleaning: If it gets dirty, simply wipe it with a dry or slightly damp cloth and let it dry thoroughly.
  • Damage: If a ring should open over time, it can easily be closed again with a pair of pliers.
