The Weapon of Antiquity's Greatest Conqueror
This letter opener faithfully mimics the design of one of the most feared weapons of the ancient world.
- The Blade: The stainless steel blade has the characteristic forward-curving shape of the Greek kopis sword. This design was engineered for devastating cutting blows and was particularly effective in the hands of the Macedonian cavalry.
- The Hilt: The richly decorated hilt is cast from metal (Zamak) with an antique bronze finish.
- The Pommel: The most prominent feature is the massive pommel shaped like a meticulously detailed lion's head.
- The Grip: The ivory-colored grip panels imitate the bone or ivory grips of historical originals.
- The Guard: The short, forward-curving guard is a typical element of kopis swords and is adorned with a fine relief.

The Kopis and Alexander the Great: The Sword That Changed the World
The kopis was a single-edged cutting sword, popular throughout ancient Greece, but it was brought to its greatest fame by the armies of Philip II of Macedon and his son, Alexander the Great. The lion's head symbol on the hilt is no accident. The lion was a symbol of the hero Heracles, from whom the Macedonian royal Argead dynasty claimed descent. Alexander himself was often depicted wearing a lion-skin helmet, thereby identifying with his divine ancestor. This sword thus combines a historical weapon with the personal mythology of its most famous user.
Typological Classification
This is a replica of an ancient Greek sword of the Kopis type (sometimes also referred to as a Makhaira). This weapon type belongs to antiquity and is not covered by medieval typologies (like Oakeshott's). It is a distinct and historically significant type of weapon.
Care and Safe Use
The stainless steel blade requires no special care. We recommend keeping the hilt dry and clean and occasionally polishing it with a soft, dry cloth to preserve its shine and details.
Important Notice: This is a decorative replica and a letter opener, not a weapon. Although it has a sharp point, it is not intended for combat, cutting, or any other practical use other than opening mail. Handle it responsibly and keep it out of the reach of children.
