Aristocratic Leather Vambraces "Highborn" – Two-Tone Design
Style, Protection, and Comfort in One
These vambraces are designed to provide you with not only protection but also maximum comfort while wearing them. The base consists of sturdy, approximately 3 mm thick black leather, which reliably cushions impacts. A second, decorative layer in a contrasting colour (red or brown) is riveted onto this base, giving the guards a three-dimensional and luxurious look. The shaping of the top layer evokes Gothic or Renaissance decorative elements, making them an ideal choice for characters such as nobles, officers, or elven warriors.
The guards are fastened using a soft cotton cord on the underside. This allows the vambrace to adapt perfectly to the shape of your forearm – you can tighten them exactly as you need so they don’t slip but also don’t constrict blood flow. This solution is historically proven and practical, as it allows wearing on bare skin as well as over the sleeve of a gambeson or shirt.
Historical Context and Usage
Historically, leather vambraces (or arm guards) served primarily two purposes. For archers, they protected the inner side of the forearm from the painful snap of the bowstring. For foot soldiers, they served as light armour against cuts. Although this is not a replica of a specific museum piece, the design is based on the aesthetics of the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance, when armour also became a fashion accessory expressing the wearer's status. Rich decoration and layered leather were typical for wealthier classes who could afford to combine functionality with beauty.
Warning: Although the leather is tough, these vambraces are not intended as full protective armour for full-contact combat with steel weapons (e.g., Buhurt or Battle of the Nations). They will serve excellently for LARP, sparring with wooden/foam weapons, stage fencing, or as protection against a bowstring.

Leather Product Care
To ensure your vambraces last for years looking like new, they deserve your care. Leather is a natural material that "breathes" and changes over time.
- Cleaning: After an event, wipe the leather with a damp cloth to remove dust and sweat. Never wash it in a washing machine or soak it in water for long periods.
- Drying: If the vambraces get damp, let them dry slowly at room temperature. Never place them on a radiator, near a fireplace, or use a hair dryer. The leather would crack and harden.
- Nourishment: At least twice a year (or after heavy use), treat the leather with a high-quality leather balm or beeswax. This keeps it supple and water-resistant.
- Storage: Store them in a dry and well-ventilated place.
To complete the look of a noble warrior, a high-quality leather belt with a decorated buckle and a historical shirt with wide sleeves would be an excellent match for these vambraces.
