Two-Tone Gothic Brown Leather Poulaines With Red Folded Cuff
Historical Context And Safety Features
Extremely elongated shoe toes were a massive fashion hit of the High and Late Gothic periods throughout Europe. This style, often called poulaines or crakows, was a clear symbol of social status. The longer the toe, the more important and wealthier the wearer was, as such footwear indicated that the person did not have to perform heavy manual labour. Furthermore, the two-tone design with a contrasting folded cuff reflects the period's fondness for bold colours and asymmetrical fashion. To ensure these historical leather shoes meet the needs of the modern re-enactor and fencer, they are equipped with a solid rubber sole with a distinct anti-slip pattern on the bottom. This will provide you with essential stability on wet grass and castle cobblestones. Important warning: Exercise extreme caution when walking up stairs, running, or during dynamic fencing. The elongated toe requires a bit of practice so you do not trip over it and cause yourself an injury.

Leather Care
Leather is a natural material that loses its elasticity and durability without care. From the factory, the boots are already carefully treated with a beeswax balm. Regularly clear them of dust and mud and grease them with a high-quality leather balm or cobbler's oil. This softens the leather, waterproofs it, and gives it a natural patina. If the footwear gets wet at a festival, stuff it with old newspaper and let it dry very slowly at room temperature. Never dry the boots on a hot radiator, near a blazing fire, or in harsh direct sunlight! Rapid drying would irreversibly damage the leather, causing it to harden and crack.
Recommended Accessories
To go with these stylish poulaines, we highly recommend purchasing period woollen chausses (leggings) and traditional linen braies (underpants) from our range, creating an absolutely perfect and historically authentic foundation for your medieval attire.
