The longer the point, the more important and wealthy the wearer was. Proper Care for Leather Footwear

Because the shoes are sewn from genuine cowhide, they can be treated with all common products designed for natural leather. Using a balm will pleasantly soften the leather and waterproof it against moisture, but keep in mind that the leather may darken slightly after application. If you do not have a special balm at hand, pure leather oil or a good standard shoe polish will also serve excellently. Using shoe polish, you can also elegantly fine-tune the colour of the leather or easily cover up minor aesthetic flaws, such as scuffed toes from a demanding march.
