Sharp Frankish Arming Sword of Spring Steel with Scabbard
Historical Context and Weapon Typology
Although the name hints at Frankish origins, visually and structurally this sword represents a beautiful example of a weapon on the threshold between the early and high Middle Ages. While older Frankish (Carolingian) swords featured shorter and thicker guards, this piece, with its wide, straight crossguard and prominent wheel pommel, aligns more with the typical knightly arming swords of the 11th to 13th centuries. According to the famous Oakeshott sword typology, the blade with its broad fuller could likely be classified as a Type X or XI. The fuller served to lighten the blade while maintaining its maximum strength and flexibility, making the sword a deadly and fast weapon in the hands of a skilled warrior.
Crucial Safety Warnings
We strongly warn you that this sword features a very sharp blade. For safety reasons, this is strictly a decorative and collector's item that is not intended for contact historical fencing (HEMA, buhurt), blade-on-blade cutting tests, and certainly not for man-to-man combat. Any attempt to spar with this sharp weapon could result in fatal, life-threatening injuries to yourself or those around you. When wearing the sword with your costume at historical festivals or LARP events, always keep it safely and firmly secured inside its scabbard.

Proper Care for Spring Steel and Leather
The blade is forged from excellent spring steel, which means it holds its shape beautifully but is susceptible to rust. For the sword to serve you as a stunning display piece for many years, the blade must be carefully cleaned, dried, and coated with a thin layer of high-quality gun oil every time it is drawn and handled. The wooden scabbard is covered in genuine leather, and the handle features a tight leather wrap. These organic parts will benefit from an occasional application of a beeswax-based leather balm. This will ensure the leather retains its suppleness and does not crack.
Recommended Accessories
To accompany this sharp medieval sword, we highly recommend purchasing a quality leather sword frog or belt, allowing you to carry the scabbard proudly at your side. A reliable preservation oil will also be a brilliant addition for maintaining the steel.
