Chainmail Armour Set: Half-Sleeve Shirt and Coif, 10mm Butted Rings, Zinc-Plated
A Complete and Practical Set
This set provides the essential protection for the torso, shoulders, and head, which is indispensable for the costume of an early medieval warrior. The half-sleeve shirt, known as a haubergeon, protects vital organs and the upper arms while offering greater freedom of movement and better ventilation than its long-sleeved counterpart. The separate chainmail coif reliably protects the head, neck, and shoulders. You can wear it on its own or, for maximum protection and an authentic look, under a steel helmet.
The Advantage of Zinc-Plated Steel: Modern Tech for a Historic Look
Traditional mail armour requires constant oiling to prevent rust. This is laborious, and the oil often stains the undergarments. Our zinc-plated armour elegantly solves this problem:
- Minimal Maintenance: Thanks to the zinc layer, the steel is protected from moisture and oxygen. You don't need to constantly preserve it with oil.
- Clean Garments: The armour won't stain your gambeson, tunic, or other costume pieces.
- A Lasting Great Look: The bright, shiny silver finish looks fantastic and resembles polished steel.
Who is This Set Ideal For?
Due to its construction from butted (non-riveted) rings, this set is the perfect choice for:
- LARP Events: It provides an excellent costume base and adequate protection for fantasy battles.
- Cosplay and Theatre: Ideal for creating an authentic knight, Viking, or fantasy hero costume.
- Re-enactment Beginners: A great starter set before you decide to invest in a more expensive riveted version.

A Glimpse into History: Armour of the Norman Knights
A thigh-length chainmail shirt, complemented by a coif, was the typical armour of a European warrior during the High Middle Ages, particularly from the 11th to the 13th centuries. It was made famous primarily by the Norman knights, as depicted on the renowned Bayeux Tapestry, which illustrates the conquest of England in 1066. This armour provided excellent protection against slashing weapons, was flexible, and allowed a warrior to move effectively in battle.
How to Care for Your Armour
Although this armour is nearly maintenance-free thanks to its zinc plating, proper care will extend its lifespan.
- Storage: After use, especially if the armour has become damp, allow it to dry completely. Store it in a dry, ventilated place, ideally hung on a sturdy hanger.
- Cleaning: Dust and dirt can be wiped off with a dry cloth. On first use, the armour may shed small zinc flakes – we recommend wiping it down thoroughly before wearing it over light-coloured clothing.
- Repairs: If the zinc layer gets scratched over time and light surface rust appears, you can easily remove it with a wire brush and treat the spot with a drop of preservative oil.
Size Chart
Important: Always measure yourself over all the layers of clothing you intend to wear underneath the shirt (e.g., a tunic and gambeson). The chest circumference of the mail shirt should be 15-25 cm (6-10 inches) larger than your total chest measurement over these layers.
