Give your doors, gates, or postern an authentic rustic look with this massive metal pull handle. It is crafted from durable steel by welding individual components, and its design is inspired by historic ironwork of rural farms and workshops. The standout feature is the twisted grip, which not only looks fantastic but also provides a firm, ergonomic hold, even when wearing gloves. Its 15.3 cm (6.1") overall length and robust construction make it the ideal choice for heavy doors, sliding barn doors, or gates. Large Metal Pull Handle with Twisted Grip, 15.3 cm

Strength and Style for Your Project

Thanks to its size and sturdiness, this steel pull handle is destined for use on large and heavy surfaces. It is perfectly suited for massive front doors, garage or workshop doors, or sliding barn-style doors. It also finds its place as a stylish and functional element in the interiors of restaurants, pubs, and guesthouses decorated in a historical or rustic style. You can also use it on large chests, cellar hatches, or as a striking addition to fantasy LARP settings.

Inspired by Historic Ironwork

While castle blacksmiths focused on armour and weapons, their craft was indispensable for daily life in the countryside. The village smith made and repaired everything from agricultural tools to builders' hardware – hinges, latches, and, of course, door handles for farmhouses, barns, and stables. Above all, these products had to be functional, durable, and capable of withstanding decades of use in harsh conditions. The design was often simple and austere, dictated by function, exactly in the spirit of this handle.

Did You Know? Blackening as Ancient Protection

The traditional black colour of metal products in a historic style isn't just paint. It is often an ancient preservation technique. The blacksmith would plunge the red-hot item into oil (e.g., linseed oil), which would "bake" onto the hot steel surface, creating a thin but very durable and stable layer – a patina. This layer not only gave the product its characteristic black colour but also effectively protected the steel from corrosion, which was crucial for outdoor hardware.

Installation and Care for the Handle

Easy Installation

Installing the handle is straightforward. Place it on the door or gate, level it, and mark the centres of the two mounting holes. For a clean installation in wood, we recommend pre-drilling the holes with a drill bit slightly smaller in diameter than the screw. If mounting on a wall, use appropriate wall plugs. Finally, screw the handle on tightly. (The package includes 2 matching screws).

Maintenance and What to Avoid

The handle is virtually maintenance-free. For normal cleaning, wiping with a dry or damp cloth is sufficient. To revive its appearance and strengthen the protective layer, you can occasionally rub it with a cloth lightly dampened with linseed oil or beeswax. Do not use abrasive cleaners (sand, wire wool) or aggressive chemicals. Although the handle is extremely strong, it was designed for operating doors – do not use it as a footstep or an anchor point for ropes.
