Legacy of the Helmschmieds

The Imperial city of Augsburg was renowned for its armour makers, including the famous Helmschmied family and master armourer Lorenz. This suit echoes the style of that illustrious era. It features a hand-polished steel finish and comes complete with a museum-quality wooden pedestal base, a decorative waist skirt, and a full internal wooden skeleton to maintain its upright posture without the need for a mannequin.

Construction and Maintenance

Handmade from 18 gauge (approx. 1.2 mm) mild steel, this armour is robust and heavy. As with all real steel products, it requires care to maintain its lustre and prevent rust.

Care Instructions:

• Protection: Apply a light coat of oil (such as WD-40 or gun oil) or Renaissance Wax every few months to protect the steel from oxidation.
• Dusting: Use only a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could scratch the polished surface.
• Environment: Display in a dry environment to minimise the risk of rust.

Assembly

The armour is shipped in a secure package and requires simple assembly onto the stand. The wooden stand and internal frame are included, ensuring the armour stands tall and stable immediately after setup.
